Following artistic interventions at the light festivals of Brussels, Ghent and Leuven, Studio Sandy was invited by the City of Zottegem to create a brand-new light festival. The result: a fully immersive experience, featuring eight original installations conceived by Studio Sandy and brought to life in collaboration with the local community.
Inspired by the city’s rich and turbulent past, we designed a nighttime route that winds past historic landmarks and reimagines the dramatic life story of Count Lamoral of Egmont — a local hero with a universal legacy.
Guided by a haunting soundtrack, visitors travel through moments of glory and downfall, walking beneath a sky of candlelight into Egmont Park, where his spirit still lingers in the shadows.
Alongside our regular artistic collaborators, we worked closely with local choirs, theatre groups, music label Dunk!Records and many other Zottegem-based creatives. Their contributions made this festival a true celebration by and for the people of the city.
Egmont Light Festival: an enchanting and imaginative spectacle for all generations, held during the final weekend of February 2024.
